Himachal Pradesh Free Electricity: Domestic consumers paying income tax in Himachal Pradesh will not get the benefit of free electricity. At present, free electricity up to 125 units is provided in Himachal Pradesh. This decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
According to this decision, now all the domestic consumers who pay income tax will not be able to avail the benefit of free electricity. These include the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, former Chief Minister, MLA, CPS, Board Chairman, Vice Chairman, OSD, Advisor and all top officials.
There will be no impact on the common man
Parliamentary Affairs Minister in Himachal Pradesh Government Harsh Vardhan Chauhan said that the state government has taken this important decision. It will not affect the common people. Only those who pay income tax have been excluded from the scope of free electricity.
He said that the then Jairam government had started giving 125 units of electricity before going out of power. Its burden fell on the current Congress government instead of the previous BJP government. He said that at present the electricity board is facing a very bad financial condition.
There is no money available even to pay the salaries of the employees of the Electricity Board. In such a situation, an attempt has been made to improve the financial situation through this decision. However, Harshvardhan Chauhan could not tell what is the number of income tax payers in the state and how much money the state government will be able to save from this.
Congress had promised to give 300 units of electricity
Before coming to power in Himachal Pradesh, Congress had promised to provide free electricity up to 300 units to every domestic consumer. Till now this promise has not been fulfilled. Harshvardhan Chauhan said that the Congress government has promised to fulfill the guarantee after coming to power. No time limit was fixed in this. He said that if Congress has promised, then free electricity up to 300 units will definitely be provided in the coming time.
