However, it is not easy to understand whether a brand is Indian or foreign by looking at the name of the companies. Havells, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, Oyo etc. are such brands which after reading people assume that these must be foreign brands. Their names may sound foreign, but they are Indian companies.

Havells needs no introduction today. Havells’ journey began with the name ‘Haveli Ram Gandhi’. Havells brand was started by a school teacher, Kimat Rai Gupta. He came to Delhi from Punjab and started the electricity business. He was the distributor of Haveli Ram Gandhi. Later, Kimat Rai bought Haveli Ram Gandhi, which was facing financial crisis. In this way, Haveli Ram Gandhi became Havells of Kimat Rai Gupta.

Often people book OYO hotels and stay there but still they do not know its full form. The full form of hotel booking site OYO is On Your Own. OYO’s founder and owner Ritesh Agarwal initially named it ‘Oraval’.

Ranbaxy
Ranbaxy, the country’s famous pharmaceutical company, was started by Ranbir Singh and Gurbaksh Singh in 1937. It has recently been bought by Sun Pharma. This deal of complete acquisition of Ranbaxy has been done for about Rs 19 thousand crores (3.2 billion dollars). According to the deal, Japanese company Daiichi Sankyo will hold 9 percent stake in Sun Pharma.
