How many SIM cards can one buy on one Aadhar card?
According to the guidelines of the Government of India, a maximum of 9 SIM cards can be purchased on one Aadhar card. However, this number may increase to 18 for machine to machine (M2M) services. M2M services are specifically for connecting devices, such as smart home devices and IoT systems used in vehicles.
What can be the problem if you buy more SIM cards?
If you buy more than 9 SIM cards or use them without proper reason, you may have to face the following problems:
SIM card may be blocked: Additional SIM cards can be blocked to protect your identity.
Possibility of fraud: By misusing too many SIM cards, cyber fraud or other illegal activities can be done, which can make you liable.
legal action: If the SIM card registered in your name is used in any illegal activity, you may have to face legal action.
Consumer Verification: TRAI and the Department of Telecommunications check SIM card users from time to time. If your SIM card count exceeds the limit, you may receive a notice.
How to check SIM card?
The government has launched TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection) portal to get information about how many SIM cards are registered in your name.
- Visit the TAFCOP website.
- Enter your mobile number.
- After OTP verification, the list of all SIM cards registered in your name will be visible.
The rule of getting a limited number of SIM cards on Aadhaar card is for your security and to maintain transparency in the digital system. Avoid getting extra SIM cards and keep checking your SIM card list from time to time.
