Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals started bidding in the IPL 2024 mini auction, but both these teams did not have much money left in their purse. The tension was increasing in the auction hall, but the owners from Gujarat and Kolkata were determined to create history. Ultimately, Gujarat gave up its stubbornness by coming to Rs 24.50 crore and KKR bought Starc with a final bid of Rs 24.75 crore.
Gujarat had played a big bet
On one hand, Gujarat Titans, due to their stubbornness, forced KKR to bid Rs 24.75 crore on Mitchell Starc. Whereas the price of the most expensive player bought by Gujarat in the IPL 2024 auction was much less than Starc. The most expensive player bought by GT was Spencer Johnson, on whom Gujarat had bid Rs 10 crore.
Well, before the IPL 2025 mega auction, KKR has released Starc. Since Kolkata has used all its 6 retentions, it does not have the option of using the Right to Match card on Mitchell Starc. This time the teams will have a lot of money left in their purse, so there are chances that the amount received by the most expensive player in the mega auction may go above Rs 24.75 crore.
