How much does the country’s farmer earn? Agriculture Minister made a big disclosure


The government runs many schemes for the financial help of farmers. But do you know what is the average income of farmer families in the country? We will tell you the answer today. According to Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, farmer families of Meghalaya are at the top in terms of monthly income. Whereas Jharkhand is at the bottom in this list.

In response to a question asked in Parliament, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MOSPI) had conducted the Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) of agricultural families in rural areas of the country. According to this survey, the average monthly income per agricultural family in rural India in 2018-19 varied from state to state. While the percentage of indebted agricultural families also varies across states. 

Income of farmers increased

The minister said that in the last five years, the agriculture sector has recorded an annual growth rate of 4 per cent in gross value addition. This growth is attributed to various schemes implemented by the government. The implementation of these schemes has resulted in a significant increase in the income of farmers. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has released a book which compiles the stories of 75,000 farmers who have more than doubled their income.

Meghalaya is on top

According to the figures cited by the Agriculture Minister, the income of farmer families in some states is more than 20 thousand rupees per month. While in many states the income is average and in some the income is very low. Meghalaya is on top in terms of good income. Here the income is 29,348. While Jharkhand is at the bottom in this matter, the income in the state is 4,895. On the other hand, if we talk about Uttar Pradesh, then the income here is 8,061.

  • Launch of National Mission Oil Palm for Edible Oils
  • Agriculture Infrastructure Fund
  • Improvement in agricultural produce logistics, introduction of Kisan Rail.
  • Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)
  • Creation of start-up eco-system in agriculture and allied sector
  • Achievement in export of agriculture and agriculture related commodities
