The game of fake and genuine medicines is going on in full swing in the medicine market. You must have read many such news, when a large consignment of fake medicines was seized. Recently, the Union Health Ministry took major action and recovered a cache of fake cancer and diabetes medicines from a wholesale drug dealer in Kolkata. The value of these medicines was estimated to be around Rs 6.6 crore. The matter of concern is that these medicines were going to come in the market soon.
Even today in many cities of India, when people fall ill, they go straight to the medical store instead of going to the doctor. After asking the chemist, we take medicines and many times we get cured. However, if this medicine is fake then you may have to pay for it. In such a situation, it is very important to identify whether you are coming home with fake medicine or real medicine? However how does a common man identify fake and genuine medicines? Let us know….
Take medicines only after seeing a doctor
The first thing to understand is that we should never take medicines without asking ourselves or the chemist. Always take medicines only after consulting the doctor and take them as per the doctor’s instructions. This method is correct and possibly counterfeit medicines can be avoided. However, despite this we should keep many things in mind-
- Whenever you go to buy medicines, definitely look for a QR code on the medicine wrapper. There is this QR code on genuine medicines, which you can scan with your mobile. In this, complete information about the medicine and its supply chain is given.
- If there is no QR code on any medicine then the medicine may be fake. Avoid buying such medicines. According to the rules, it is mandatory to have QR code on all medicines priced above Rs 100. If there is no QR code on the medicine wrapper, avoid buying them.
- The QR code on medicines is of advanced version, the complete details of which are released by the Central Database Agency. The QR code is also changed for every medicine. Therefore it is difficult to create fake QR codes.
- A helpline number is also given on the wrapper of medicines. If you have doubt about medicine then you have to send SMS on that number. After this, the company will send you information whether this medicine is genuine or fake.
