After China, cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) are increasing rapidly in India. Since Monday, seven patients of this virus have been reported in the country. Even though it is being denied that a Corona-like situation is being created due to this virus, the cases reported in the last two days have definitely increased the tension of the people. In such a situation, the question is, what is the treatment for this virus spread from China? Is there any vaccine available? Will antibiotics have any effect on this virus? If not then why? Let us know…

Identified in 2001

The Health Ministry has said that there is no need to panic too much about this virus, because this virus is not new. The ministry said that this virus was first identified in 2001 and it has been spreading around the world for years. Health experts also say that HMPV virus does not cause increasing mortality like Corona and rarely does a person infected with this virus need to be hospitalized.

What is the treatment of HMPV?

The symptoms of the HMPV virus that emerged from China are almost similar to those of Covid-19. However, this virus is quite different from Covid. Health experts say that Covid was a new virus, hence humans did not have the immunity to fight it. Since HMPV is not a new virus, it can be dangerous only for children below 5 years of age or those with weak immunity. Experts say that a child above 5 years of age can acquire immunity to fight this virus. As far as the treatment of this virus is concerned, no vaccine has been made for it yet.

Can HMPV virus be treated with antibiotics?

Now the question is whether antibiotics are effective on this virus and whether it can be treated with these medicines. The answer is no. Antibiotic medicines show their effect on any bacterial infection, since HMPV is a virus, it cannot be treated with antibiotics. However, antibiotics can prevent other bacterial infections in the body during weak immunity. You can take liquid diet, medicines for pain, cough and other infections as per the doctor’s advice.
