If there is a fight between two people in the train, then the most important question is where to complain. However, wherever you see policemen, you should lodge a complaint there. But do you know that not every police can investigate it. We feel that we can complain to anyone, be it GRP or RPF, but both have different rights. According to the law, whichever police force reaches there first after receiving initial information, has to take action. But the jurisdiction of GRP is different and that of RPF. Let us know about it…
This has been explained in detail on the portal of North Central Railway. Railway Protection Force or RPF has been formed for the protection of property of Indian Railways and better protection of passenger area. Its work includes preventing illegal occupation of railway property and investigating matters related to it. RPF is responsible for dealing with cases related to unauthorized entry of women in the railway coaches, travel on the railway roof, unauthorized vending, brokerage, etc. But under the law, the power of arrest is in the hands of GRP i.e. Government Railway Police. At present 12 battalions are working in the country.
GRP patrolling the railway area
GRP i.e. Government Railway Police is the police force of Indian Railways. GRP patrols the railway area and ensures security. Providing security and investigating crimes committed in trains comes under its jurisdiction. Control over railway passengers, controlling overcrowding, controlling vehicular traffic within the station premises, arresting criminals etc. are under the control of GRP.
What will happen if a crime like murder is committed?
In case of murder or any such serious crime, the GRP hands over the case to the local police. Only GRP has the right to arrest anyone in the railway premises or in a moving train. If the RPF is watching the fight then it will have to hand over both the quarreling persons or the accused to the GRP at the next station. Generally, GRP has a police station at every major railway station, whereas RPF has only a security post or duty room.
