Oxygen is most important for human life. We cannot imagine the life of any human or animal without oxygen gas. For humans to survive, the oxygen level must be correct. But the question is that when oxygen gas is present in the atmosphere, then why cannot it be filled in the cylinder. Today we will tell you about it.
Oxygen gas
Oxygen gas is needed for human life. You will remember that period 3 years ago, when crores of oxygen cylinders were in demand due to the Covid pandemic. Now the question is why the oxygen gas present in the atmosphere is not filled in the cylinder. After all, what is required to make oxygen gas? What is oxygen gas? It was included in the countryβs list of essential medicines released in 2017. Not only this, it has been declared essential for three levels of healthcare β primary, secondary and tertiary. Apart from this, it is also included in the WHOβs list of essential medicines. Let us tell you that at the product level, medical oxygen means up to 98% pure oxygen, which does not contain impurities like moisture, dust or other gases.
Why canβt oxygen be filled from the atmosphere?
Let us tell you that the air around us contains only 21% oxygen. But it cannot be used in medical emergency. Therefore, medical oxygen is prepared in a special scientific manner in big plants, that too liquid oxygen is prepared.
How is oxygen made?
Let us tell you. Just like when water is cooled to 0 degrees Celsius, it freezes into ice or solid. Similarly, when heated up to 100 degrees Celsius, it boils and turns into steam i.e. gas. Oxygen boils at -183 degrees Celsius and turns into gas. That means the boiling point of water is 100 degrees Celsius, while that of oxygen is -183 degrees Celsius. That is, if oxygen is cooled more than -183 degrees Celsius, it will turn into liquid.
This gas is present in the atmosphere
The air contains 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and the remaining 1. % There are gases like argon, helium, neon, krypton, xenon. The boiling point of all these gases is very low, but different. Let us tell you that if we freeze air and cool it, then xenon gas will turn into liquid at -108 degrees. In such a situation we can separate it from air. For example, at -153.2 degrees krypton, -183 oxygen and other gases will turn into liquid one by one. We separate them and store them in liquid form. Let us tell you that we call this technique of separating gases from air as Cryogenic Technique for Separation of Air. The liquid oxygen prepared through this technology is pure up to 99.5%.
