A case of illegal occupation of 1.36 acres of land next to Anand Park in Durgakund by former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sanjay Singh, resident of Amethi, has come to light. Dr. Singh has requested the District Magistrate of Varanasi to consider removing illegal encroachment from his private land and using it for any welfare scheme of the Central or State Government. The administrative staff has become active after the request of the former Rajya Sabha MP.
Amethi’s Raja Rajarshi Rananjay Singh, father of former MP Dr. Sanjay Singh, had donated 1.36 acres of land to the Varanasi Municipal Corporation in the year 1958, east of Anand Bagh Park located next to Durgakund. He wanted Anand Bagh Park and the land donated by him to be developed as a big park. But, the park could not be constructed by the Municipal Corporation on the donated land.
Due to this, people got illegally occupied there. In such a situation, considering the violation of the initial and basic conditions of donation, the Uttar Pradesh government returned 1.36 acres of land to Rajarshi Rananjay Singh in the year 1987. In pursuance of the decision of the State Government, action for transfer of 1.36 acres of land was also taken in the revenue records of the Municipal Corporation.
