What did the IMF say about AI?

One disadvantage of AI has been revealed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in one of its latest reports. In fact, according to a new analysis by IMF, AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence can affect about 40% of the jobs around the world.
According to a BBC report, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva says that, “Under most circumstances, AI will probably make inequality worse around the world.” He believes policymakers should pay attention to such “disturbing trends” to prevent technology from further inflaming social tensions.
According to this report, IMF said that AI will affect a large proportion of jobs in advanced economies, about 60%. Half of these employees will be those who can expect to benefit from AI, which will increase their productivity.
Unemployment and inequality will increase in the world
Apart from this, those tasks can also be done with AI, which currently require humans i.e. employees to do them. This may reduce the demand for labour, affect salaries and even lead to loss of jobs. However, the IMF estimates that AI technology will impact only 26% of jobs in low-income countries.
The IMF Managing Director said, “Many countries do not have the infrastructure or skilled workforce to take advantage of AI, increasing the risk that over time this technology could increase inequality between countries around the world.” “.
The IMF believes that low-income and older workers may be left behind. Regarding this, Georgieva said, “It is important for countries to create comprehensive social protection systems and offer retraining programs for vulnerable (low-income, older, or those who do not understand AI technology) workers or employees.” “By doing so, we can make the AI transition more productive, protect livelihoods, and curb inequality.”
