India-Pakistan Agreement: Maintaining the trend that has been going on for more than three decades, India and Pakistan exchanged the list of their nuclear installations under a bilateral agreement on Wednesday (January 01, 2025). This information was given by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Foreign Ministry said the list was exchanged under the provisions of an agreement preventing attacks on nuclear installations. The list was exchanged simultaneously through diplomatic channels between New Delhi and Islamabad. “India and Pakistan today exchanged the list of nuclear installations simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad,” the ministry said.
The agreement was signed in 1988
The exchange of this list comes amid the deadlock in relations between the two countries over the Kashmir issue as well as cross-border terrorism. The agreement was signed on December 31, 1988 and came into force on January 27, 1991. Under the agreement, there is a provision for both the countries to inform each other about their nuclear installations on the first January of every year.
“This is the 34th consecutive exchange of such lists between the two countries,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. The first exchange of this list took place on January 1, 1992.”
Shares were also made in the name of citizens and fishermen
Apart from this, the Ministry of External Affairs also said that India has also shared the names of 381 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen, who are either Pakistanis or suspected to be Pakistanis. At present he is in Indian custody. Similarly, Pakistan has also shared the names of 49 civilian prisoners and 217 fishermen in its custody, who are either Indians or believed to be Indians. The Government of India has called for the early release and repatriation to India of civilian prisoners, fishermen and their boats as well as missing Indian defense personnel from Pakistani custody.
