India China Border Talks: An important step is being taken towards resolving the long standing border dispute between India and China. In this sequence, Special Representative (SR) talks are going to be held between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the end of December. The talks will be the first high-level discussion after the 2020 clash in Galwan Valley. The previous SR meeting was held in December 2019, which was before the dispute escalated.
The recent withdrawal of troops from Depsang and Demchok areas has given positive signals regarding the talks. It is believed that these talks can pave a new path towards a comprehensive solution to the border dispute.
There will be discussion on clarifying the border
According to India Today report, there will be several levels of discussions during these talks, the objective of which will be to clearly define the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and make efforts to resolve it permanently. According to sources, the outcome of this meeting will decide when the next Corps Commander level meeting will be held. This meeting will focus on operational issues like patrolling and buffer zones, so that conflicts can be avoided in future.
Constant efforts to reduce stress
India and China have made several efforts at the military and diplomatic levels to reduce border tensions since 2020. The upcoming talks are an important opportunity for both countries to resolve differences, enhance mutual trust and establish a permanent framework for the management of the border dispute.
