India-China Relations: China has reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement regarding the border dispute between India and China. On Thursday (April 11, 2024), Beijing said that ‘strong and stable relations’ serve the common interests of China and India.
When Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning was asked to respond to Narendra Modi’s statement, she said in a press conference, “China has taken note of the Prime Minister’s comments.” “We believe that strong and stable China-India relations serve the common interests of both sides and are conducive to peace and development in the region and beyond.”

According to Mao Ning, the border question does not represent the entirety of India-China relations and should be appropriately placed and properly managed in bilateral relations. Both countries are in close contact through diplomatic and military channels.
The Chinese spokesperson also said, we hope that India will work with China in the same direction, handle bilateral relations from strategic heights and long-term perspective, enhance mutual trust, stick to dialogue and cooperation, handle differences appropriately. And will move on the path of strengthening and stabilizing bilateral relations.
PM Narendra Modi What did he say?
In an interview given to the American magazine ‘Newsweek’, the Indian PM had said that relations with Beijing (China) are important for New Delhi (India). The ‘prolonged situation’ on the borders should be resolved immediately. During the conversation, PM Modi expressed hope that through positive and constructive bilateral engagement at the diplomatic and military levels, both the countries will be able to restore and maintain peace on the borders.
PM Modi had said, “I believe that we need to immediately resolve the long standing situation on the borders so that the discomfort in our bilateral talks can be left behind. Stable and peaceful relations between India and China are important not only for our two countries but for the entire region and the world.
This is what has happened between India and China so far
There is currently a standstill in relations between India and China, except trade ties, after the standoff on the eastern Ladakh border on May 5, 2020 following violent clashes in the Pangong Tso (lake) area. To resolve the deadlock, both sides have so far held 21 rounds of Corps Commander level talks.
According to the Chinese Army, both sides have so far agreed to retreat from four points – Galwan Valley, Pangong Lake, Hot Springs and Jiannan Daban (Gogra). India is pressurizing the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to withdraw its troops from Depsang and Demchok areas and says that as long as uncomfortable conditions remain on the borders, normalcy in China-India relations cannot be restored.
