India-Maldives Relation: Giving a big relief to Maldives, the Indian Government extended the deadline to repay the loan of 150 million dollars. At the same time, Foreign Minister Musa Zameer, who returned to Maldives after visiting India, said that the projects running with the support of India in Maldives have also gained significant momentum, as he urged the government to give priority to restarting and completing these projects. According to the report of news agency PTI, Maldives Foreign Minister Musa Jamir reached Maldives after visiting India on 8-10 May. On the other hand, Foreign Minister Musa Zamir said that he and his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar participated in bilateral discussions on May 9 to discuss important matters with the aim of expediting the projects started with India’s financial assistance.
India extended the deadline to repay the loan
Meanwhile, while giving information, Maldivian Foreign Minister Musa Jamir said that the Indian Government has given the green signal to Maldives to extend the repayment deadline of Rs 15 crore loan out of the $200 million loan. Actually, India had given this loan to the previous government of Maldives.
Jamir said that Maldives had already repaid India $50 million in January and the remaining $150 million was to be paid soon, but now on the demand of Maldives, India has extended the repayment deadline. In return, India has not made any additional demand.
Projects in Maldives were started during the previous government
During this, Foreign Minister Musa Zameer said that there has been rapid progress in the work of projects going on in Maldives with the support and funding of India. In such a situation, work on these will happen more rapidly in the coming days. Musa Jamir had raised this issue with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar during his visit to India. He told that during the previous government of Maldives, work on many projects had started with the cooperation of India.
There is no intention to remove Indian doctors – Musa Zameer
Maldives Foreign Minister Musa Zameer’s visit to India came at a time when relations between the two countries are becoming sour. In fact, after the arrival of pro-China Mohammed Muizzoo government in Maldives, relations between the two countries have become a bit sour. Jamir said that in place of 76 Indian military personnel deployed in Maldives, employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited have been deployed in Maldives.
