India Relations In Year 2024: India achieved many achievements at the global level in the year 2024 and also faced many controversies. This year was also special because this time PM Modi came to power for the third consecutive time and gave a message to the country and the world as to how much his people love him. She believes that the PM will soon make India a global power by using his political experiences. Proof of this was also seen when India became the 5th economic power in the world.
In 2024, India faced diplomatic situations that included regional disputes and ups and downs in global relations. Relations with countries like China, Bangladesh, Canada, and Iran made this year’s diplomacy challenging and decisive.
India-Bangladesh relations
The resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the political turmoil that followed gave a new turn to India-Bangladesh relations. Political instability increased in Bangladesh after the interim government of Mohammad Yunus came to power. India expressed concern over increasing attacks on minorities, especially Hindus. Bangladesh dismissed India’s concerns, calling it an “internal matter”, further straining relations.
Increase in diplomatic tension between India and Canada
Allegations against Indian officials of involvement in the murder of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar weakened bilateral relations. Meanwhile, there were expulsions of diplomats, suspension of visa services, and a standstill in trade negotiations. The attacks on the Indian community in Toronto in November made the situation more serious. However, India has rejected all the allegations and challenged Prime Minister Trudeau to present evidence. At present tension remains between the two countries.
RAW agent dispute with America
America accused Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta of conspiring to murder Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. The Indian government rejected these allegations, calling them “baseless”. Apart from this, Ayatollah Khamenei, the supreme leader of the Islamic country Iran, raised questions on the alleged discrimination against Muslims in India. India reacted sharply by terming these allegations as “misinformation”.
India’s diplomatic victory
In October, India and China resolved the 54-month-long border dispute in eastern Ladakh. Steps were taken towards improving relations by restoring the pre-2020 patrolling system on LAC. Agreement was reached on aspects like Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and sharing of data on border rivers.
Release of naval personnel from Qatar
Eight former Indian Navy personnel were saved from death sentence in Qatar and released. This achievement became a sign of strong bilateral relations between India and Qatar. At the same time, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of India’s neighboring country Sri Lanka, chose India for his first foreign trip. This step was a symbol of the growing strategic cooperation between the two countries.
chabahar port agreement
India signed a 10-year Chabahar port agreement with Iran. This investment of $370 million strengthened India’s connectivity with Central Asia and Afghanistan. Prime Minister this year Narendra Modi Visited Kuwait for the first time in 43 years. The objective of the visit was to promote energy cooperation and strengthen trade relations.
Test of India’s diplomatic capabilities
In 2024, India not only resolved historical disputes but also balanced emerging global relations. This year was a test of India’s diplomatic capabilities, in which challenges and achievements revealed India’s influence around the world.
