India-Bangladesh relations

Political instability increased in Bangladesh after the interim government of Mohammad Yunus came to power. India expressed concern over increasing attacks on minorities, especially Hindus. Allegations against Indian officials of involvement in the murder of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar weakened bilateral relations. Eight former Indian Navy personnel were saved from death sentence in Qatar and released. This achievement became a sign of strong bilateral relations between India and Qatar. At the same time, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of India’s neighboring country Sri Lanka, chose India for his first foreign trip. India signed a 10-year Chabahar port agreement with Iran. This investment of $370 million strengthened India’s connectivity with Central Asia and Afghanistan.
