Indian army recovers 3 dead bodies of missing soldier in Ladakh after 9 months


Indian Army: In October last year, three soldiers went missing after an avalanche hit Mount Kun in Ladakh. Nine months after that incident, the bodies of those three army soldiers have now been recovered. At that time, 38 soldiers were hit by the avalanche, out of which one died on the spot and three were missing. The remaining soldiers were rescued.

Mission to bring back from Mount Kun peak

The operation to bring these soldiers back from Mount Kun was led by Brigadier SS Shekhawat, Deputy Commandant of High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS). Brigadier SS Shekhawat is an experienced mountaineer who has climbed Mount Everest thrice. He described this mission as the most challenging mission of his life.

38 army personnel trapped in avalanche

A contingent of 38 troops of the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) set out to reach Mount Kun in Ladakh. The expedition began on 01 October 2023 and the team was expected to reach Mount Kun by 13 October 2023. In this mission, the troops had to face the challenges of very bad weather there.

On 08 October 2023, while putting a rope on the snow wall at an altitude of more than 18,300 feet between Camp 2 and Camp 3 on the Fariyabad Glacier, this team suddenly came under the grip of an avalanche, after which all the soldiers were buried under the snow. Brigadier SS Shekhawat said, “In the operation to rescue the troops, digging for 10-12 hours every day was reached to 18,700 feet. He told that this mission was very challenging physically, mentally and emotionally.”

These young men had gone missing

According to news agency PTI, the names of the army soldiers whose bodies have been recovered are Havildar Rohit Kumar, Havildar Thakur Bahadur Ale and Naik Gautam Rajvanshi. The body of the fourth soldier killed in this accident, Lance Naik Stanzin Targas, was recovered immediately after the accident.
