New scam started on WhatsApp
Actually, criminals who commit cyber crimes through WhatsApp call WhatsApp from unknown numbers and then cheat the users by confusing their words under some pretext. Most of such calls are coming from international numbers.
The Department of Telecommunications of India has given information about this that for the last several days many people have been complaining that they are receiving WhatsApp calls from the government department. Through this call, cyber criminals are threatening people to disconnect their mobile numbers by giving them the fear of getting involved in some illegal activities. For this reason we have issued this warning.
Department of Telecommunications issued advisory
The Department of Telecommunications further said in its advisory that people should ignore WhatsApp calls coming from any foreign number starting with +92. The Department of Telecommunications has said that do not receive any call coming from such numbers. If you receive any call on WhatsApp or from any such number, then immediately report it on the government complainant web portal.
For your information, let us tell you that +92 is the international code of Pakistan, just as +91 is prefixed to any mobile number of India, because it is the international code of India, similarly to any mobile number of Pakistan, +92 remains ahead. However, this does not mean that the calls you receive on WhatsApp from numbers starting with +92 are coming from Pakistan, because nowadays cyber criminals have the ability to access any country’s international code, along with any fictitious number. Making and then calling any common person is not a very difficult task.
