INS Nirdeshak: India is constantly facing challenges from its neighboring countries in the Indian Ocean. In this context, the Indian Navy has further increased its strength. Indian Navy has got its second survey ship ‘Director’. With this the strength of the Navy has further increased. It has been built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers of Kolkata under the Self-reliant India initiative.
The launch of the survey vessel was done by Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth. INS Sandhyak, the first ship of this category, was inducted into the Navy on 3 February this year.
Know what is special
INS Director is designed to support maritime survey, navigation aid and maritime operations. It has state-of-the-art hydrographic systems such as Multi Beam Echo Sounder, Side Scan Sonar, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).
With the help of this technology, accurate mapping and survey capacity in dangerous and limited areas will increase. Apart from this, quick, secure data collection will also be possible for lab identification and environmental studies.
Long distance operation capability will increase
Its work is of survey. This will also help in navigation and maritime operations. With this, India’s reach in the sea will increase further. This will help the ships to operate in remote areas of the Indian Ocean and the waters around Maldives-Seychelles.
80 percent indigenous parts have been used in the construction
Director’s maximum speed is more than 18 knots. It can stay in the sea for 25 days. Apart from this, it can make navigation charts by conducting surveys under the sea. It is through the hydrography charts made by India that warships and cargo ships of all the countries of the world pass through the Indian Ocean region. This 110 meter long and 16 meter wide ship weighs 3,400 tonnes. It has 80 percent indigenous parts.
