What is RPF?
The full name of RPF is Railway Protection Force. It comes under the Central Government and its functioning is looked after by the Railway Ministry. Its headquarters is in Delhi. The main job of RPF is to protect railway passengers along with railway properties across the country. However, in 2003 the RPF Act was amended and some other rights were given to the RPF. Under this, RPF can take action and can also register FIR. However, compared to GRP, RPF officers are limited.
What is GRP?
GRP means Government Railway Police. It is also called Government Railway Police. These mainly come under the state police. Their job is to maintain law and order at railway stations. The crimes under the Indian Justice Code are handled by the GRP only. In cases like poisoning, theft, robbery, murder in railway stations or trains, GRP takes action by registering cases. Not only the railway station, the GRP also looks after the crimes that take place within a radius of one kilometer of the station. GRP has the authority to arrest the accused and register an FIR against him. Apart from this, GRP personnel are also deployed in some trains.
