Indian Railways: 15 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured in the Kanchanjunga Express train accident near Rangapani station near Jalpaiguri in West Bengal on Monday morning. Initial investigations have revealed that the accident occurred due to a freight train hitting the train from behind. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav (Ashwini Vaishnaw) tweeted that financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each has been announced for the families of the passengers who lost their lives in the accident, Rs 2.5 lakh for the seriously injured and Rs 50,000 each for the less injured. To prevent such accidents, the railways has launched Kavach (Kavach) has developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) technology. For this, the railways are soon going to issue a tender of Rs 5000 crore. The railways want to install armor on about 10000 km of track.
Two tenders of 5000 km will be issued to expedite the work
Indian Railways (Indian Railways) has developed Kavach in the country itself. To implement it faster, two tenders of 5000 km will be issued. Kavach has been developed to prevent train accidents. Last year, 296 people were killed and 1200 were injured in a train accident in Balasore, Odisha. The first Kavach tender was issued in the year 2021. It was only for 3000 km. This system is capable of preventing accidents caused by human error. Kavach is capable of stopping the train by identifying the train ahead or any other obstacle. This will prevent train collisions and derailments.
Plan to install armor on 7000 km of track every year
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told Mint on Saturday that the work of installing armor on 10 thousand km of railway track will start soon. DPR of about 6000 km of track has been prepared and about 4000 km is about to be completed. The work of developing this system started in the year 2012. At present, armor has been installed on about 1500 km of track. According to the new tender, there is a plan to install armor on about 7 to 8 thousand km of railway track every year. At this pace, 70 thousand km long Indian railway network will be equipped with armor in 10 years.,
