Iran Presidential Election 2024: After the death of Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter accident, Iran is going to have a presidential election again. The decision on who will contest the election in Iran is taken by the Guardian Council of their country, whose members are nominated by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei himself. The first round of presidential elections was held in Iran on June 28, in which no candidate was able to get more than 50 percent of the votes.

Know the history of the leaders who are contesting against each other
The election campaign in Iran has now ended and the eyes of the country and the world are on the voting there. In such a situation, let us know about the two main leaders who are going to compete. Saeed Jalili is internationally known for his role in handling the Iranian nuclear file between 2007 and 2012, when he was the undisputed chief nuclear negotiator of the country.
Saeed Jalili works as a representative of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei. He has previously participated in the presidential election twice.
Saeed Jalili is a conservative fundamentalist leader like his former colleague late President Ibrahim Raisi. In 2015, Jalili was against the nuclear deal with Western countries. In such a situation, if he becomes president, Iran’s relations with Western countries may be affected. However, during the election, he has promised to reduce inflation.
On the other hand, Masoud Pezeshkian is considered a liberal. He is a supporter of big leaders like former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and Hassan Rouhani. He has said that if he becomes president, he will work to restore the 2015 nuclear deal. He has condemned the way the government deals with protests in Iran.

The entire politics of Iran revolves around its supreme leader Ali Khamenei. Both Masood Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili are loyal to the Iranian government. Both these leaders are supporters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is the pillar of Iran’s armed forces. Jalili has been a former member of the IRGC, while Pezeshkian has worked for the organization in the uniform of the IRGC.
