Scientists had found this meteorite with the help of cameras installed in the area to monitor meteorites.
According to the New York Times, this issue took a new turn when an appellate court ruled in favor of the land owner last Thursday. The appellate court overturned that decision, which had ruled in favor of the two people who found the meteorite. Just a few days after the meteorite fell, geologist Anders Zetterqvist discovered the spot where the meteorite had fallen. After a lot of searching, the scientist recovered a 30-pound piece of iron meteorite stuck to the moss.
Iron meteorite globally rare
According to media reports, the meteorite that fell north of Stockholm was one of the iron meteorites that fell in the world. The fall of iron meteorites is rare globally. So far only one iron meteorite has fallen in Sweden, over which there is a dispute. It is said that these meteorites burn while falling.
The land owner had filed a case
This meteorite fell in Sweden in November 2020, a week after scientists announced the discovery of the meteorite. Johan Benzelstierna von Engeström, the owner of the site where the meteorite fell, sent a letter to the museum. The owner of the land said that this body should be his because it had fallen on his land.
Scientists can go to Supreme Court
In December 2022, the Uppsala District Court ruled in favor of the scientists in this case, considering the meteorite as movable property. But after the land owner appealed, the court has now given its verdict in favor of the land owner. Now scientists want to approach the Supreme Court regarding this issue.
