Israel Hamas War: Discussions are in the final stages for an agreement on ceasefire and release of kidnapped hostages in Gaza. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed this. Qatar told that this agreement is being made in Doha. Qatar said, “We believe that we are in the final stages (regarding the ceasefire). Obviously we hope that an agreement will be ready very soon.” “But until there is an announcement, we should not get too excited about the events happening at the moment,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari told a news conference.
Majed al-Ansari said, “In the past months, there were some mutual issues between the two sides that were unresolved. These issues were resolved during the talks in the last few weeks and so we have reached the point where those important issues were addressed that were preventing an agreement from being reached.”
What are the terms of the ceasefire agreement?
A three-step strategy outline has been proposed regarding the ceasefire agreement. The draft says women, children, elderly and sick people will be released during the 42-day ceasefire as part of the first phase. Displaced Gazans in the northern part of Gaza will be allowed to return to their homes as Israeli forces leave densely populated areas.
Apart from this, Israeli troops will also withdraw from the Netzarim Corridor dividing the north and south of Gaza and the Philadelphia Corridor along the Egyptian border. Under the agreement, Israel will release more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners. Several hundred terrorists will be released in the first phase of the agreement. Israel will be allowed to maintain a buffer zone within Gaza while the first part of the agreement is being implemented.
