Canada Politics: Amidst the growing political crisis in Canada, New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. This step has been taken after the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland. The Khalistani leader has cited the rising cost of living in the country and the looming threat of tariffs from incoming US President Donald Trump as the main reasons behind his demand.
Jagmeet Singh, who supports Khalistan, said, “Today, I am demanding Justin Trudeau’s resignation. The Liberals are fighting against themselves, while Canadians need a prime minister who will fight for them.” Singh said Canadians are already facing financial stress due to rising living costs and housing challenges, and in addition, Trump’s proposed 25 per cent tariffs threaten to put many jobs in the country at risk.
Is the effect of Donald Trump’s threat visible?
Canada’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned from her post on Monday after Prime Minister Trudeau gave her a lesser position. He said his desire to increase spending could jeopardize Canada’s ability to absorb the damage from tariffs that US President-elect Donald Trump is threatening to impose.

Trudeau on backfoot after Freeland’s resignation
Freeland chaired a special cabinet committee on Canada-US relations and was working with the 10 provinces to ensure a cohesive response. Freeland was a key figure in Trudeau’s cabinet, holding positions such as trade and foreign minister and leading trade negotiations with the EU and the US. Most recently, she was managing Canada’s response to Trump’s policies.
