Special dacoity court has sentenced dacoit Mangali Kevat to life imprisonment in a 20-year-old kidnapping case. His three associates have also been sentenced to seven years each. The court acquitted three including Mangli’s wife. On November 23, 2004, Shivkumar Sharma, a resident of Kuroti of Madhaugarh police station area, was kidnapped from Orai Kotwali area. Ransom was demanded from his family. During the investigation of the case, on 26 November 2004, Atta police freed Shivkumar during an encounter.
After investigation, on June 3, 2005, the police filed a charge sheet against Mangli Kevat, Godhan, Rakesh alias Ramkesh and Motilal Kevat. The hearing in this case was completed on Monday. The court found dacoit leader Mangali Kevat guilty and imposed life imprisonment and a fine of fifty thousand rupees. In this case, dacoit Mangli’s associates Godhan, Rakesh and Motilal have also been found guilty and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand rupees. At the same time, three accused including the wife of dacoit Mangali Kewat have been acquitted in this case. Mangli Kevat is currently lodged in Kanpur jail. After sentencing, he was sent back to Kanpur jail. Dacoit Mangli is a resident of Bijwaha village of Kuthound police station area.
