Report- Ashish Tyagi
Baghpat. Strange stories and things are seen and heard everywhere. There is only one town-like colony in UP which is unique in its name and work. Due to its strange reason, its name has also become like this.
In ancient times, there used to be a tradition of having a son-in-law at home. A tradition in which after marriage, the son-in-law comes to live in his in-laws’ i.e. wife’s house. Jamai means son-in-law and the one who comes and starts living in the in-laws’ house is given the name of son-in-law. There is a whole colony in Baghpat which is called Jamaipura.
this is history
One such tradition can be seen in Jamai Pura colony of Khekra town. The matter is 37 years old. In 1987, four families started living in this colony who married girls from Khekra town and settled here. Then this colony was named Jamai Pura. He established this locality. Only the local people started knowing it by the name of Jamai and the name of the locality itself started being called Jamaipura. Today, around 500 families live in this place.
Name changed but identity remains the same
Colony Jamaipura of ward number 13 of Khekra Municipal Council has been renamed as Prempuri. Current councilor Liaquat Ansari says that this colony was settled in 1987. Boys from outside families married the girls of the family living here and then they started living here in their in-laws’ house. Since then this colony came to be known as Jamai Pura. Even today this colony in Khekra town is known by the name of Jamaipura. After some time its name was changed to Prempuri. But even today the name Jamai Pura is in trend.
