Jammu Kashmir Encounter: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district a few days before the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. These terrorists were heavily armed. Officials said on Monday (September 9, 2024) that firing started in the Lam area of ​​​​Naushera sector late on Sunday night when alert soldiers saw that terrorists were trying to infiltrate from across the border.

The army foiled the infiltration of terrorists

Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. Army Public Relations Officer in Jammu, Lieutenant Colonel Sunil Bartwal said, “In a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army successfully foiled the infiltration attempt of terrorists in Naushera sector. Intelligence received from 30 August 2024 indicated the presence of terrorists on the other side of the Naushera sector. All possible routes of infiltration were being monitored.

He said ground and aerial surveillance equipment was deployed to monitor the area. “Area patrolling was also increased, with troops deployed in key areas to prevent infiltration of terrorists,” the defence spokesperson said. “At around 7.30 pm on September 8, surveillance teams noticed suspicious movements of some people in the area. This was followed by heavy firing. The firing continued throughout the night. UAVs, night vision cameras and other surveillance equipment were deployed to keep an eye on the terrorists.”

Two terrorists killed in firing

Lieutenant Colonel Bartwal said that two terrorists were killed in the firing. He said, “In the morning of 9 September 2024, the area was searched to free it from any threat, where two AK-47 rifles, one M-4 rifle and a pistol along with other weapons and ammunition were recovered.”

Colonel Sunil Bartwal said that the army’s quick and coordinated response to this infiltration attempt reflects the coordination between the army, police and intelligence agencies. He said, “Search operations are going on in the area. The army is alert and is committed to thwart any such attempt in the future.”
