The scrutiny of nomination papers for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections has been completed. After rejecting 35 nominations which were found invalid, a total of 244 candidates are left in the fray. After this, candidates who want to withdraw from the fray can withdraw their nominations till August 30.

Voting is to be held on 24 seats in the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18. 279 candidates had filed nominations for this. The scrutiny of nominations was completed on Wednesday in the offices of returning officers in seven districts. A total of 23.27 lakh voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the first phase, out of which 5.66 lakh youth will play a decisive role. The total voters include 11.76 lakh men, 11.51 lakh women and 60 transgenders.

More than 300 additional paramilitary force companies will be deployed

More than 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the three-phase assembly elections starting on September 18. Officials said on Thursday that Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu-Kathua Range Shiv Kumar Sharma reached the Police Reception Center (PRC) at Bari Brahmana railway station on Wednesday night and welcomed the forces who arrived there.

Voting for 26 seats in the second phase on September 25, notification issued

Voting for 26 seats will be held on September 25 in the second phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The Election Commission issued a notification in this regard on Thursday. Nominations will be filed till September 5 in this phase. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on September 6 and nominations can be withdrawn till September 9. Voters will be able to vote from 7 am to 6 pm. Counting of votes will take place on October 4.
