The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

Divyeshbhai Ranchodbhai Akbari of BJP defeated Manojbhai Gordhanbhai Kathiriya of INC by 62,697 votes in Jamnagar South Assembly seat in Jamnagar district. BJP candidate got 86,492 votes while Congress got 23,795 votes here. AAP came third in this election. AAP’s candidate Vishal Rajbal Tyagi got 16,585 votes which was just 12.49 per cent of the total votes. That is, Tyagi could not even save his bail. The deposits of 12 candidates including Tyagi were forfeited. BSP candidate Makuben Kishorebhai Rathod (Meenaben) got only 866 votes. Whereas, NOTA got 2,182 votes.

BJP got victory in 2017
The BJP had won the Jamnagar South seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP had made Ranchodbhai Faldu its candidate from this seat. He defeated Ashok Lal of Congress by 16,000 votes. A total of ten candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining eight candidates were forfeited. Before 2012, most of this seat used to come in Jamnagar seat. The Jamnagar seat has been a BJP stronghold for more than three decades. From 1985 to 2022, a total of 10 assembly elections including one by-election have been held on this seat. In all these elections only BJP candidates have won on Jamnagar South seat. The Congress has won here only twice. The Congress has won this seat only in 1962 and 1980 elections. At the same time, Lok Dal, Swatantra Party and Independent candidates have won once each.
