Indian Telecom Sector:Indian users are increasingly getting attracted towards wireless services, hence gradually the number of wireless users in India is increasing rapidly. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report revealed that India witnessed a growth in wireless subscribers, reaching a total of 1160.71 million by the end of January 2024. The number of wireless subscribers in India was 1158.49 million in December 2023. This means that currently its growth rate is 0.19%.

Most customers connected with Jio in January

According to new data from TRAI, Jio has added 41.78 lakh (4.178 million) new mobile users in January, and has led the telecom industry in this matter. Due to this, the total number of Jio customers has now increased to 46.39 crore.

The number of wireless users of Bharti Airtel has also increased. Bharti Airtel added 7.52 lakh (0.752 million) new mobile users in January, which is about 5-6 times less than Jio. Due to this, the number of Airtel mobile users has now increased to 38.24 crore (382.4 million).

Vodafone-Idea is the third most popular telecom company in India, but this company is facing continuous losses. Even in January 2024, not only new customers joined this company but old customers also left. Vi lost a total of 15.2 lakh (1.52 million) wireless customers during this period. Due to this, the number of mobile users has now reduced to 22.15 crore (221.5 million).

Number increased in both urban and rural areas

The number of wireless subscribers in urban areas increased slightly to 633.96 million from 633.44 million, while in rural areas also increased from 525.05 million to 526.75 million. 12.36 million requests for mobile number portability were submitted in January.

A broad view of the telecom sector shows that the total telephone subscriber base in India as of January 2024 was 1193.25 million, with 2.92 million subscribers added to both wireless and wireline services during the month. The wireline segment also recorded positive momentum, with an increase of 0.70 million subscribers, taking the total to 32.54 million. Seeing the number of users increasing so rapidly, it becomes clear how huge the Indian Telecom family is becoming.

Apart from this, broadband subscribers including both wired and wireless services increased from 904.54 million to 911.03 million in December 2023. The growth in broadband subscribers is evidence of the growing demand for high-speed Internet service in India, which is important for both economic activities and personal use.
