Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued an advisory warning students against attending the screening of the banned BBC documentary featuring Narendra Modi. It said such activities could disturb “communal harmony” on the campus. The advisory came ahead of the screening of ‘India: The Modi Question’ by the Left-backed All India Students Federation (AISF) at Ganga Dhaba on Tuesday night. The university described it as “unauthorized and inappropriate”, saying that no permission was given for the screening.

A group of students has released a booklet for the screening of a banned documentary to be held at Ganga Dhaba on Tuesday night at 9:00 pm. No prior permission has been taken from IHA for this program. The advisory issued on Monday said such unauthorized activity could disturb the communal harmony and peaceful atmosphere of the university campus. The university warned students against proceeding to the event and being influenced by the invitation booklet.
It said that the students/individuals concerned are strongly advised to stay away from all such activities. Otherwise strict action will be taken as per the rules of the university. Stakeholders are also advised not to get agitated by this pamphlet, which is unauthorized and unfair.
AISF has released a pamphlet inviting students to the screening organized in memory of the attack on Jamia Millia Islamia students by Delhi Police in 2019. On 15 December 2019, Delhi Police entered the Jamia campus following student protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Many students were injured and videos of police beating students and vandalizing the library sparked outrage across the country. However, the police said they had entered the campus searching for outsiders involved in arson and violence during the anti-CAA protest outside the campus.
