Johnny Lever told Ranveer Allahabadia in his podcast that he has been doing social work since childhood. He said, ‘We used to live in a chawl earlier. Then we moved from chawl to slum. We lived there for 18 years. We were very poor there. We were still fine, but the rest of the people were so poor that I used to live with them and help them. I used to work after coming from school. I used to work at a liquor bar. I have also seen many murders there.’

He further said, ‘I thank God for showing me all this. I was a labourer, used to sleep on the floor. I never thought that I would become an artist. After that I saw good things. I thought all this was a dream.’


Johnny had gone to commit suicide

Apart from this, Johnny told, ‘At the age of 13, I had gone to commit suicide on the railway tracks. I was fed up with my father. I went to the track, the train was coming from the front, suddenly I saw my three sisters in front of me wondering what would happen to us.
