Journalist Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey Appointed as Senior Secretary and Ambassador by Bangladesh Interim Government


Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey appointed as Ambassador: Bangladesh’s controversial journalist and activist Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari has been appointed as the ambassador for foreign missions by the interim government of Bangladesh led by Mohammad Yunus. Fazal is famous for his alleged anti-India views and long campaign against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He had to leave the country during the Hasina government and now after a decade, he has been awarded this new responsibility immediately after returning to Bangladesh on September 12.

The Ministry of Public Administration of Bangladesh formally recognized Ansari’s appointment by issuing an official notification on October 21, 2024. Fazal came into limelight in India when he held a press conference with US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller in March, which focused on the arrest of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. During PC, Fazal had raised tough questions on the policies of the Government of India. He always played a vocal role in raising voice against Indian influence in Bangladesh.

Where is Fazal being sent?

Yunus government has given Fazal the status of senior secretary with a three-year contract. However, it has not been made clear to which country they will be sent. According to sources, the Ministry of External Affairs may soon give detailed information related to his appointment. This appointment has come at a time when the interim government of Bangladesh has currently postponed appointments in countries like America, Russia and United Arab Emirates.

Who is Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari?

Fazal Ansari was the assistant press secretary to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Sheikh Hasina’s main rival in Bangladesh, from 2001 to 2006. He has been working as the executive editor of South Asia Perspectives, a Washington-based foreign policy magazine for a long time. Ansari is the editor of JustNewsBD and has covered the United Nations, the US State Department and the Pentagon. Apart from this, he has been a White House correspondent.
