Dr. Naved Sabir, Principal Scientist, Center for Protected Agricultural Technology, located in the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa), says that tomato is a fruit according to botany. But it is used more in the form of cooked rather than uncooked, hence it came to be called vegetable. Oxford dictionary has called tomato a fruit.
