According to the religious and mythological story of Kamada Ekadashi, in ancient times a king named Pundarik ruled the state of Bhogipur. Many Apsaras, Kinnars and Gandharvas also lived in this kingdom. A couple named Lalit and Lalita also lived in this state. There was deep love between these two. One day Lalit was singing in the king’s court, when he started thinking of his wife Lalita, due to which his tone, rhythm and rhythm got spoiled and the sound of the song also got disturbed.
When the king asked Lalit the reason for this, he told the whole thing to the king. But after hearing the truth, King Pundarika became angry and cursed Lalit to become a demon who eats raw meat. Due to the curse, Lalit turned from a human being into a giant monster. Seeing Lalit’s condition, his wife Lalita also became sad and she reached Shringi Rishi’s ashram on Vindhyachal mountain.
Lalita told the whole story to Rishi Shringi and asked the solution to get rid of it. The sage said that fasting on Kamada Ekadashi can reduce the consequences of the curse. As per the advice of the sage, Lalita kept a fast on Kamada Ekadashi of Chaitra month and worshiped Lord Vishnu and passed Dwadashi Tithi.
By the grace of Lord Vishnu and the results of Kamada Ekadashi, Lalita’s demon husband Lalit became a human again. After living a happy life, both husband and wife attained heaven. Therefore, it is said that as a result of this fast, a person becomes free from the vampire form.
