Automatic Fare Collection Gates (AFC) have now been installed for ticket collection at four of the five underground stations under Corridor-1 of the Metro. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) Managing Director Sushil Kumar on Tuesday visited the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of the corridor and the underground section from Chunniganj to Transport Nagar station. During this, he took stock of the progress of works related to different departments.

Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC) system installed at metro stations includes Automatic Fare Collection Gate (AFC), Ticket Vending Machine and Ticket Office Machine. At present, AFC gates have been installed at four stations: Chuniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Kanpur Central. Work is going on at Nayaganj station.

AFC gate is used to check the tickets of passengers. Passengers scan the QR code on their ticket at this gate, after which this gate opens to enter the paid area. The ticket also has to be re-scanned at the gate for clearance after reaching the destination station. Except Nayaganj, six AFC gates have been installed for entry and exit at each station from Chuniganj to Kanpur Central. The process of installing five AFC gates for entry and six for exit is underway at Nayaganj station.
