On the pretext of buying a necklace from a bullion dealer’s shop located in Naubasta, a middle-aged woman gave away a gold locket worth about Rs 1.32 lakh. When the jewelery was tallied in the evening, the locket was found to be less. When CCTV footage was seen, the incident of theft was revealed. The businessman has lodged a report of theft against an unknown woman at Naubasta police station.

Raju Kumar Soni, resident of Hamirpur Road Naubasta, has a shop named Maa Annapurna Jewelers in Yashoda Nagar. According to Raju, he had gone out from work at the shop on the afternoon of January 10. The employees were managing the shop. At around 2.30 pm a 50 year old woman came to the shop. A 20-year-old youth was also with him, who after coming inside, sat on the sofa. The woman sat near the counter and asked to show the necklace. He first saw the necklace and then asked to show the chain and locket. By engaging the employee in conversation, the woman diverted his attention and cleverly stole a locket. When the jewelery was matched in the evening, the locket weighing fifteen and a half grams was missing. After this, the woman was seen stealing the locket in the footage. After this the police was informed. When the police checked the CCTV, the woman and the youth were seen walking on foot for about half a kilometer. Naubasta Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh said that the accused woman is being searched with the help of the footage.
