I loved you: Salman Khan’s film Maine Pyar Kiya proved to be a superhit. Bhagyashree debuted with Salman Khan in this film. Both the actors were popular everywhere from the very first film. This film was a blockbuster. But do you know that Bhagyashree was not the makers’ first choice for the film. Initially someone else was approached in his place. But later she was rejected and Bhagyashree was taken. The actress who was the first choice for Maine Pyar Kiya was none other than Upasana Singh, who had played the role of aunt in Kapil Sharma’s show. Upasana herself has revealed this.
In an interview given to Siddharth Kanan, Upasana Singh recalled how she had auditioned for the role of Bhagyashree and director Sooraj Barjatya had selected her. He said- Sooraj Barjatya had told me everything about the film and had also selected me.
Rejected for this reason
Upasana Singh further said- Next day he told me that you should come tomorrow and meet my father but from my side you are okay. The next day I met his father and he rejected me. They are very sweet people, they did not call me rejected but also did not call me again.
Upasana said – Many years later, when I was working in Rajshri Production’s Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, Raj Kumar Barjatya told that Upasana was the first choice for the role of Suman. She said in front of everyone – Do you guys know who was the first choice for Maine Pyar Kiya? Kareena, Abhishek and Hrithik were all there. I didn’t tell anyone about this because I had lost the role. After that he said- Worship. Everyone was shocked. I said- But because of you I did not get this role.
Upasana told the real reason behind the rejection. Raj said- I am not making any excuse but you were taller than Salman. I was told that they wanted to cast someone who was younger than Salman. For this reason he was not cast.
