Halal Meat Ban Bill: After the ruckus on Hijab in Karnataka, now the controversy has started on Anti Halal Bill. The BJP government in Karnataka is now banning the sale of halal meat in the state, while the opposition is opposing it. The opposition alleges that through this law the government is working to target a particular community.
The winter session has started in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. BJP MLA N Ravikumar can present this bill in the House. He has demanded FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) to ban things other than certified food items. In this regard, he had also written a letter to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. At the same time, the opposition has accused the BJP government of the state of playing the Hindutva card before the elections.
What is Halal Meat?
Halal is an Arabic word, which means lawful. In Islam, there is a recognition of eating only Halal meat. Under Halal meat, no animal is killed outright, rather some of its special veins are cut. Due to this, the whole blood of the body comes out and it dies. It is claimed that it causes less pain to the animal that dies.

Why is the Anti-Halal Bill being brought?
In April this year, there was a ruckus in Karnataka over Halal meat. Hindu organizations had appealed to boycott Halal meat. Many Hindu organizations including Hindu Jagruti Samiti, Shri Ram Sena, Bajrang Dal took to the streets in Karnataka to protest against Halal meat. Hindu organizations said that the meat offered on the occasion of Ugadi should be Jhatka. They say why should everyone eat Halal meat because of a particular community?
Halal Meat Ban in Sikhism
Halal meat is not eaten in Sikhism. In December 2021, the National Minorities Commission had issued instructions to the Punjab government regarding the meat. The commission had asked the Punjab government to issue orders to the hotel and restaurant owners in the state whether the meat served is Jhatka or Halal. Mention it clearly. It was said on behalf of the commission that it is coming to notice that Halal meat is being served to customers in hotels in Punjab, while Halal meat is banned in Sikhism.
These changes will happen after the law is made
If this Anti-Halal Bill is passed in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, then changes will be made in the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. A ban will be imposed on giving food certificate to any private institution. Halal certification will be banned if the bill is passed. If this becomes a law, then Karnataka will be the first state in the country, where Halal meat will be banned.
Halal meat banned in these countries too
There are many countries in the world where it has been banned. In 2021, Belgium implemented a new rule to ban Halal meat. It was said in the rule that before killing the animals, they must be unconscious first so that Halal meat is automatically banned. Apart from Belgium, such laws have also been made in Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Austria and Greece.
