Kashmiri Student Assaulted In AMU: A Kashmiri student studying at Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh Muslim University has accused some unknown miscreants of carrying out the ‘deadly’ attack. The student has said that he is being treated step-motherly in the campus. However, Additional District Magistrate Meenu Rana has said that no written complaint has been lodged in this regard. A solution to their insecurity problem will be found.
Speaking to the media, Rana said, “Kashmiri students are feeling insecure after the verbal spat between the students and a meeting will be organized for this. There is no complaint of murderous attack on the Kashmiri student.”
‘Written complaint has not been lodged’
He further said, “For now the concern of the students is to ensure their safety and control the entry of non-students. There is no confirmation of the fatal attack on the student. It will be discussed. If there is any insecurity, a solution will be found.” No written complaint has been filed so far.”
What did the victim student tell?
The Kashmiri student who alleged the attack has been identified as Jibran. Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Additional District Magistrate, Jibran claimed that a group of outsiders thrashed him on Saturday evening. Jibran said, “When I asked a group of noisy people to leave the campus, they did not go and they abused me and attacked me fatally. They beat me up. I ran towards my room.”
‘I was beaten and told I am a terrorist’
Student Jibran said, “My roommates and I called the university administration, but they didn’t respond. Instead I was asked to apologise. I also protested against the alleged beating.” He claimed, “We protested peacefully and closed the gate. When I was attacked, I was told that you are terrorists and we will be shot.”
‘Step-motherly treatment’
Talking about the meeting with Additional District Officer Rana, the student said that he has assured that the UP government will be informed about “why Kashmiris are being targeted”. Gibran said that he is treated step-motherly in the campus. Meanwhile, a protesting student demanded an inquiry into the matter and action against those involved.
Students asked for an appointment with the District Officer
The student said, “We also want that notice should be taken of the action being taken against the fights happening inside the campus. A peaceful atmosphere should be created here.” At the same time, an official said that the students have sought time to meet the District Magistrate. We had received information that there is some problem between a Kashmiri student and a student group from Ghazipur. The students have given a memorandum and sought an appointment with the District Magistrate.”
