Kenya will kill 10 lakh migrated Indian crows in the next six months Know reason

Indian Origin Crow: The government of Kenya has announced to kill a large number of crows of Indian origin. The government has prepared an action plan to eliminate 10 lakh crows in the next six months i.e. by the end of the year 2024. Kenya’s Wildlife Department says that crows are not a part of their primary ecosystem. The country’s Wildlife Department has called the crows of Indian origin ‘invasive foreign birds’. The department says that these crows have been causing trouble to the public for decades and killing local birds.

Kenya’s wildlife authority says these crows are not native to East Africa, but their population has increased rapidly in the coastal cities of Mombasa, Malindi, Kilifi and Watamu in the past few years. In view of the problems created by their large numbers, the government has set a target to eliminate 1 million crows. This decision was taken in a meeting, which included representatives of the hotel industry and doctors specializing in crow control.

Crows are a problem for the hotel industry
The Wildlife Authority said in a statement issued on Saturday, these crows are becoming a big problem for the hotel industry in coastal cities. Due to the crows, tourists are not able to enjoy food sitting in open spaces. In such a situation, people associated with the hotel industry are also very upset with the crows and are demanding control over them. The Kenya Wildlife Authority said that a decision has been taken to eliminate the crows in public interest.

Who is at risk from crows?
The wildlife authority said that many birds have become endangered because of crows, they are constantly hunting such birds. Kenya’s ornithologist Colin Jackson said that these crows destroy the nests of small native birds and eat their eggs and chicks, due to which many bird species are decreasing. Due to the lack of native birds, there is a problem in environmental conservation. The effect of crows is not only on such birds, but the entire ecosystem is getting affected by it.
