Kidney Racket: How does kidney racket run in hospitals? Know how big the market is

Every year more than 2 lakh kidney transplants are required in the country. But according to the report, hardly 15-20 thousand kidneys are transplanted in the whole year. The remaining 1 lakh 80 thousand patients are either on dialysis or a shortcut is adopted. In the pursuit of a shortcut, some people start walking on the wrong path. Wrong path means kidney transplant is being done illegally. Nowadays the kidney racket is flourishing comfortably within the system.

How does a kidney racket work

According to a report published in Times of India, Dr. Anup Kumar, a kidney transplant surgeon at Safdarjung Hospital, while talking about the kidney racket, said that due to this the demand and supply are very high. Out of the requirement of 2 lakh in a year, only 15-20 thousand people get transplant.

Its success rate is quite high. It is much less than liver, heart and lung transplant. Dr Vikas Jain says that due to having two kidneys, donors are also ready to donate. Kidney surgery requires a big infrastructure and expertise. Its surgery is also done at small centers. It is not a protocol for small cities. That is why kidney rackets mostly run in small cities.

This is how a kidney racket executes its purpose

Doctors say that the whole game of kidney racket is done through documents. Since the committee does not know anything about the relationship between the recipient and the donor. The file is approved on the basis of the documents that are kept. The documents are also fake and forged. If a person has to show husband and wife, then it can be done on the basis of documents.

Aadhar card, voter card, passport are prepared in a fraudulent manner. If the husband needs a kidney then the wife becomes the donor. On that basis, the wife’s blood group is prepared on the basis of the husband’s blood group. Actually, the whole game happens when the actual donor is someone else and the patient’s wife is made the donor in the report. In such a situation, the approval committee does not have any special way to verify these things."text-align: justify;">Kidney racket happens more in foreign countries. If the patient is from India, then his child can be questioned. But foreign patients face language problem. Apart from this, there is a lot of difficulty in verifying documents. Therefore, more fraud can happen with foreign patients. The cost of kidney transplant is 7 to 8 lakhs. Foreign patients have to pay 20 to 25 percent more.

Surgery after committee’s approval

In transplant, surgery is not done without the approval of the donor living committee. The doctors who are treating the patient are not included in this committee.
