Booth capturing was done first in Begusarai
The year was 1957 and assembly elections were being held in Bihar. The election atmosphere in Bihar has always been heated. There was a tough competition on the Begusarai seat that year. Saryug Singh was in the fray from the Congress side, while Chandrashekhar Singh, who was the sitting MLA, was from the Communist Party. The election campaign for voting was going on at a very fast pace. The polling station was located at a distance of 6 kilometers from Begusarai.
Many people from nearby villages used to come to the booth to cast their votes. While people were casting their votes, 20 miscreants with guns came and removed the people and started casting fake votes themselves. It was told that these goons belonged to Congress candidate Saryug Singh. When the election results came, this was confirmed because Saryug Singh had won the election. This was the first case of booth capturing in India.
