Former SC Judge Madan Lokur: Former Supreme Court judge Madan B. Lokur has been appointed Chairman of the United Nations Internal Justice Council (IJC). His tenure will last till 12 November 2028. He was appointed by United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres wrote a letter to Justice Lokur informing him about his appointment. In the letter, he said that a retired judge of the Supreme Court will lead the council, which will also include other eminent jurists. I am pleased to appoint you as the Chairman of the Internal Justice Council as a member, whose tenure will end on 12 November 2028. Will end.

Who is Justice Madan B. Lokur?
Justice Madan B. Lokur is an eminent name in the Indian judiciary. His career is known for outstanding judicial decisions and commitment to social justice. Justice Lokur, 71, started his law practice in 1977. He practiced law for many years in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. Human rights, environmental protection, and judicial reforms were his main areas.

Contribution to Supreme Court
His tenure as a Supreme Court judge began on June 4, 2012. Retired on 30 December 2018. He served in the Supreme Court for more than 6 years, during which he gave many important decisions.

Chief Justice of Guwahati and Andhra Pradesh High Court
Justice Lokur served as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. He also served as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. After his outstanding services in the Guwahati and Andhra Pradesh High Courts, he was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 4 June 2012. In May 2019, Justice Lokur was made a member of the Non-Resident Panel of the Supreme Court of Fiji. His tenure was for three years, which was extended for another three years in 2022. Now UN has given him a place in IJC.
