Actually the word Mrig Marichika comes from Rajasthan. Since there is a lot of desert in Rajasthan, deer feel thirsty during the summer season. So due to sunlight the shining sand appears like water. He goes near it but does not get water and continues walking like this. Deer is called Mrig in Sanskrit and mirage is called optical illusion.
