Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: The CBI, which is investigating the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has submitted its investigation report to the Supreme Court. The CBI told the Supreme Court on Thursday (August 22) that our investigation itself is a challenge because, when we took over the case on August 13, everything had changed. During that time, the crime scene had been tampered with.
The CBI on Thursday (August 22) alleged in the Supreme Court that the Kolkata police had tried to cover up the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital as the crime scene had changed by the time the federal agency took over the investigation.,
The trainee doctor’s friends had insisted on doing videography
Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of the CBI, told the bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud that the senior doctors of the hospital as well as the colleagues of the victim had asked for videography. This means that they also felt that something was being hidden in this. He said, “We started the investigation on the fifth day. However, before that, whatever the Kolkata Police had collected was given to us.”
The hospital management tried to suppress the case by calling it a suicide
The Supreme Court bench also comprised Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. During this, Tushar Mehta told the bench, “First of all, the Deputy Superintendent of the hospital told the victim’s parents that her health was not well. When they reached the hospital, they were told that she had committed suicide. On this, the deceased’s friends insisted on videography. This shows that they suspected a cover-up of the case.”
There was no change in the crime scene- Kapil Sibal
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta further said that when a call was made to Tala police station on the morning of August 9, the doctors told the police that the victim was unconscious, although she had already died. Meanwhile, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who appeared in the court on behalf of the West Bengal government, opposed Mehta’s arguments and said that everything was videographed. Apart from this, nothing was changed at the crime scene.
CBI’s status report is only trying to complicate the matter
During this, Kapil Sibal said that the Kolkata Police followed the procedure with full honesty. In such a situation, the status report of the CBI is only an attempt to complicate the matter. He said that the CBI should tell the court what progress it has made in the case in the last one week. During the hearing, Tushar Mehta criticized Sibal for allegedly laughing when he was pointing out the flaws in filing the FIR by the police.
