Aamir-Reena’s divorce did not happen because of Kiran Rao
Aamir and Reena ended their marriage in 2002, a year after the release of Lagaan. Interestingly, Kiran had worked as an assistant director on Lagaan, which led many to believe that the actor’s divorce from his wife Reena Dutta was due to her romantic relationship with Aamir. In a recent interview given to Zoom, Kiran clarified that they started dating in 2004, which was three years after the release of the Ashutosh Gowarikar directed film.
Kiran said, “Many people think that Aamir and I were related to Lagaan, but it was not so at all. Aamir and I got together during Swades, he was going to shoot Mangal Pandey at that time. We had shot some ads for Coke with Ashutosh Gowarikar and that’s where Aamir and I reconnected. After 3-4 years of tax. I was not in his contact. In fact, I had hardly talked to him on Lagaan. I was actually seeing someone else during Lagaan.
