Prerna Singh told that when the candidates pass the UPSC exam, they have to go to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). There is usually a gap of at least one and a half months between the release of UPSC results and going to LBSNAA. During this time, candidates have to pack and go through various formal processes, such as issuance of service list and completion of other necessary documents.

How is the atmosphere of the academy?

When candidates reach LBSNAA, they feel for the first time that the training here is very strict and disciplined. Prerna Singh told that the curriculum here includes various types of physical activities, such as starting from morning PT, horse riding, swimming and sports activities are conducted. Through these activities, the physical and mental abilities of the candidates are tested. Apart from this, there are also classes during training, which are called ‘sunbreaks’. Candidates have to wear formal clothes during classes and it is mandatory to follow discipline during training. This training is called Officer Training (OT). After this training, candidates are given training at different places according to their services.

Special training for IAS officers

Special training is conducted at LBSNAA for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. An important part of this is Bharat Darshan, i.e. visiting different parts of India and District Training, in which the working of administration at the district level is explained to the candidates. Prerna Singh told that during this time she got the opportunity to visit different villages and understand the administrative work.

Himalayan Trekking and India Day

In LBSNAA every candidate has to participate in a Himalayan Trek which lasts for 10 consecutive days. This tracking is physically demanding, but it gives candidates self-reliance and the ability to work in difficult situations. Apart from this, there is a special tradition of celebrating “India Day”, in which all the candidates come in traditional attire of their chosen field and organize cultural programs. If someone has chosen Rajasthan, then they wear Rajasthani attire and organize activities related to the culture there.

Exams are held even after UPSC

People think that after passing the UPSC exam there are no other exams, but it is not so. Candidates are also examined in LBSNAA, in which MCQ based questions are asked. Through these questions, the candidates’ educational ability and understanding of administrative functions are evaluated. Thus, the training after the UPSC exam is as challenging as the exam itself. This training not only prepares the candidates physically and mentally, but also trains them to understand and perform administrative tasks effectively.

Training is also done in foreign countries and ministry

Candidates coming for training at LBSNAA are strengthened from physical fitness to mental health. Apart from this, training is given in rural development, agriculture and industry development. Here everyone is made competent in all fields before getting officer rank. Along with this, training is given by going to foreign countries like South Korea and many other countries to understand the working there. Along with this, trainee IAS are also deployed in various ministries of the country and their training is done.
