There have been explosions in a pager in Lebanon, one of Israel’s biggest enemies. At least 10 people have died in this, including the son of a Lebanese MP. More than 3000 people have been injured in the attack. Among the injured are Lebanon’s ambassador to Iran and a Lebanese MP who has lost one eye. Apart from this, Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters, who keep fighting against Israel, have also been seriously injured in this attack.
In such a situation, the blame for these blasts is directly put on Israel and its intelligence agency Mossad, which is an expert in carrying out such blasts. So, has Mossad really carried out these blasts? What kind of technology has Mossad used that it has even hacked Lebanon’s pagers and what is this pager, through which such a big blast has been carried out? Let’s find out.
What is a pager?
You must remember the movie Pushpa starring Allu Arjun. There is a scene in it when Pushpa goes to Sheenu’s house and makes a deal to sell sandalwood. During this, he calls Murugan, the biggest buyer of sandalwood, from Sheenu’s mobile and says that he is a syndicate member and now he will not sell goods to Sheenu, he will come directly to Chennai and talk to Murugan. During this conversation, Pushpa says that write down the number of my pager…8384… This is the same pager that was used before the advent of mobile phones. Only messages were sent and received through it. All messages were transmitted using radio signals, but when the mobile came, not only did we talk but messages also started coming and going through it. Now there are apps from all over the world to send messages, from WhatsApp to Telegram and Messenger to Instagram. Still, people in Lebanon and Syria used pagers till now, so it is a bit surprising to know this.
The pager works even without a network
If I tell you that pager works even without mobile network, then your surprise might be less. Pager works in those areas where there is no mobile network even today and messages can be sent and received through it. Therefore, Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters fighting Israel have to go to such areas during the war where there is no network. In such a situation, they use pager. Apart from this, immediately after Hamas and Hezbollah attacked Israel on 7 October last year, Hezbollah stopped its fighters from using mobile phones. The reason for this was that location can be tracked during communication with mobile phone, which has been tried by Israel’s army IDF and Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad. During the tracking of Hezbollah’s location, Mossad came to know that now Hezbollah fighters are not using mobile phones but pagers.
Since when was Mossad planning?
In such a situation, Mossad changed its method of attack. Famous news agencies around the world such as Reuters, Al-Jazeera and New York Times have claimed that Mossad managed to reach a consignment of 500 pagers made in Taiwan which was to be sent to Lebanon. Then bombs were fitted on the batteries of the pagers which could not be scanned by any scanner. When Mossad became sure that this consignment of pagers had reached Lebanon and Hezbollah fighters had started using them, on September 17, it hacked these pagers and sent a message through which the explosives were activated and then such devastation was caused in Lebanon’s capital Beirut and the Eastern Bekaa Valley, considered to be the stronghold of Hezbollah, that it further strengthened the fear of Mossad.
Why are questions being raised on the Taiwanese company?
The rest of the blasts happened in pagers made in Taiwan, so questions are being raised on Taiwan and its company Gold Apollo, whose pagers were made and blasts happened. Taiwan’s company Gold Apollo’s chairman Su Ching Kuang claims that though the pagers in which the blasts happened bear his company’s name, they were made by a European company with which his company Gold Apollo has a partnership. By the way, since the attack happened on Lebanon, America’s name is bound to come up and that is why America itself has said that it has nothing to do with this attack.
What will Hezbollah do now?
Now the eyes of the whole world are on Hezbollah because the attack has happened in its home. Many of its fighters are injured. Sons of many top officials have also been killed, so Hezbollah has warned Israel and Mossad to face the consequences of this attack. So should Israel be prepared for another big attack and the bigger question is whether Israel is really ready for another attack, because the missile attack done by Yemen’s Houthis recently reached Tel Aviv dodging Israel’s Iron Dome. If Hezbollah also does a similar attack and Iran supports Hezbollah in this, then a big trouble is certain for Israel.
